Commitment – 20%:

Watch this short video, again.

Get it? It’s not, or at least not only, what will you get out of the experience. Ask yourself what you can add to the experience. Your perspective matters. Do not assume that what seems obvious to you is obvious to everyone else. It won't be.

So how do you display commitment?

  • Most importantly, do the assigned reading
    so that you can:
  • Talk
  • Ask questions
  • Call attention to things you find curious, unexpected, or in any way interesting
  • Be prepared to answer questions
  • Challenge what the professor or others say about the reading.

Doing these things will allow the professor to see that you have done the reading and that you have thought and are thinking about it.

A good rule of thumb is to expect to spend three hours outside of a class for every hour you are in class. When this is not true, you have no right to think of yourself as being committed to a course.
