IDST 1106 – Fall 2006 – Print, Visual, & Digital Cultures: The Evolution of Expression

Course Description

In this course students will interrogate modes of expression from the advent of print culture to the latest possibilities offered by digital culture. They will be invited to integrate personal and academic interests into all aspects of the course. During the year students will acquire advanced instruction in communicating using MSWord, Powerpoint, HyperText Mark-up Language (HTML), Frontpage, Digital Video, Metadata tagging, and Multi-user Object Oriented (MOO) environments. They will then apply some or all of these skills in individual or group projects. By taking this course, students will not only gain a fundamental awareness of the interrelationship between media and culture, but will also become sensitive to the effects of specific media on the form and content of communication.
