Faith or Logic which is
Stronger?
By: Simon Grimard
The Poem entitled Faith is a series of five different slides. The title of the poem remains present on the
page throughout the entire series of slides.
The first slide starts off with the word logic raining down and bouncing
off the title of faith. The words, Logic
can’t bend this, appear. The animation
of the word logic bouncing off of faith and then the appearance of the words
logic can’t bend this portrays that logic is not as strong as faith. Another way that logic is depicted as being
weaker then logic is by the sound of an antique music box that is made as the
word bounces off of faith. The first
slide clearly depicts that the author believes that faith can overpower logic
with the images of logic being unable to penetrate faith and by the sound that
logic makes as it bounces off faith.
On the second slide there are several more words added to the page. These new words along with the words already
on the page make up the sentences “I edge logic out. Can’t the mind press on
around the bend to consummate this vision of the deep “or”?”. The additions of these words help to further
develop the position that faith is stronger than logic. The sentences indicate that the mind may not
be able to comprehend everything but a person can still have faith even though
they cannot fully understand why.
The third stage sees the addition of more words to the page. However in this instance the words do not only
fade in. The words red, winking, and
neon are brought in blinking. The sentences created become seemingly less
logical however the reader is lead to believe that the poem will still come to
an conclusion with how the words have been shuffled in the earlier stages.
In the fourth stage of the poem we see several more words added to the
page however the two important ones are, the addition of “off the rocker
(yippee!),”. This appears in line with
the rest of the words then one end drops off and puts the sentence on an
angle. This draws the readers’ attention
to it and makes the reader think about how sometimes people of faith are
considered to be somewhat loopy in their unfaltering beliefs. The other major addition is that of the word
leap which grows to eventually take over the page. The use of the word leap ties into what the
saying “leap of faith” where it is sometimes necessary to simply have faith in
what you are doing and not necessarily have a logical conclusion as to why you
are doing it.
The fifth and final stage has all of the words dropping to the bottom
into a big pile except for the four words “just to sum up:” with the title of
Faith falling on top of the pile. This
is the final animation of the poem and it shows that faith is above everything
else and that when everything else falls apart a person’s faith will still hold
strong and true.
