Faith Is Greater Than Logic
Faith is a poem by Robert Kendall, the word Faith is linked with the word logic. Words are
constantly added to the previous text with sound effects that go along with the new words that
are appearing. When reading the poem, different letters appear to form new words and sentences.
The words are all different colors so the reader is able to distinguish all the different parts
of the poem. The music being played is able to give the reader a sense of the authors tone
throughout the poem, the music is constantly changing with the tone of the poem.
According to the author of Faith, logic can not bend faith. The beginning of the poem displays
the word logic dropping down on the word faith multiple times to emphasize the importance of the
two words in the poem. The author is trying to describe ways for the mind to work around the vision
of logic and faith, the word or is then faded in to poem to give an affect for the next idea
of the poem. This allows the reader to think about the next idea that the author is going to present.
The font of the word Faith is in older style writing, this font brings a deeper meaning to faith
because it emphasizes the fact that faith has been around since the beginning of time.
The words red, winking and neon are flashed multiple times into the next part of the poem to
describe the word logic, these words put an emphasized effect on logic. This part of the poem
expresses a lot of trouble and confusion with logic and faith. The word theory is originally
presented up-side down and is then flipped to give an effect of the confusion that is taking place,
there is also trouble understanding the word or and the author expresses ways on how to vision it.
The next part of the poem, the music starts to get more intense. There is still no sense made
out of the word logic. The words walking out, leave taking, forgoing-going-gone,
stride out and leap are all faded in this part of the poem. The fading effect brings more
attention to these verbs. Also, the words off the rocker (yippee!) are slanted.
This gives a reader a sense of excitement that is taking place in the poem, the author is finally
starting to understand the concept of Faith.
Only one word will ultimately describe Faith, and that is Leap. At the end of the poem,
Leap is bolded to fit the whole screen to bring an effect on the importance of this word.
To have faith, a leap must be taken first. The poem then crumbles to the floor, leaving the
word Faith on the top of it to sum up the poem. Faith being at the top of all the words
describes that faith will always come out on top. The main point that the author of the poem,
Faith, was trying to make is that faith will always trump logic. No matter how our brain tries
to make sense of logic, faith will always win.
