1.Load - When the author uses the word load, he is referring to how large the size of the mini-van is
normally.
Merchandise - When the author used the term merchandise, he is referring to the mini van. The author
is explaining the negative factors to reducing the vans rear.
Dirt - When the author uses the word dirt, he is referring to the mess and dust that is in the mini
van and explaining how the cleaning drain will help remove all the unwanted dirt.
2. Square brackets are used in text to insert other words (or text) that was not supposed to be
there originally. In this reading, they are used around the number 1 to indicate the first point
that is being made about vehicles but it is not a main part of the reading.

3.... indicates a period of time or an object that is not specifically mentioned. In the first
sentence of the text, ... is used in between vehicles now in service and for those now being built.
This means that the ... is referring to all the vehicles that are not in service or being built.
The second time, ... is used after Since December and this is referring to all the months that have
past since December until now.
4.The person that wrote this text has a lot of knowledge on vehicles and ways on how to repair them,
which is why an auto-mechanic would have most likely written it.
5.The text was most likely written to the head of the vehicle manufacturing company. The author is
stating ideas on how to improve vehicles for the company and would hope that the head of the company
will consider the thoughts and ideas from the text to improve the vehicles being built.
6. The text is about technical changes that need to be made to improve the quality of the vehicle
being sold. The text mentions some of the problems the vehicles have and suggests ways on how to
improve the vehicle. The text also explain why these improvements will benefit the vehicle and the
people buying it.
