The data for this research study was collected though a survey consisting of randomized questions that evaluated consumer attitudes toward private, and national brand labels. The relationship between brand image and quality were investigated through multiple hypotheses that were carefully constructed after reviewing data from related studies. The authors began their study by finding an area of interest and detecting a gap within the knowledge base, leading them to a testable research idea. Formulating a research idea that is testable and replicable is the basis for any good study within the psychology discipline.

There are many methods to obtain information, examples of which include tenacity and logic. But research methods such as the scientific method and the research process are considered most effective because they avoid biases and are less prone to error. This journal followed the components of the research process and successfully completed the last step by having the article published in a professional journal. Words such as, hypothesis, independent variable, and dependent variable are used throughout psychology research articles. This study manipulated the performance rating of a car. The two groups (negative rating and positive rating) were asked to drive the car and answer specific questions regarding the image and performance of the car. Some of the dependent variables measured in this test were, image perception, quality perception and feelings such as enjoyment while driving the car.Wells, D. (2005). Last but not least: The identification and perception of bottled water. Perception, (34) 10, 1291-1292. doi: 10.1068/p5267.
The psychology discipline is interesting because it offers a wide range of topics that can be researched extensively. Topics included the physiological study of the brain to how human beings function in society. An interesting topic that is still up for discussion is the perception of brand image and quality. This study looked at the taste of bottled and tap water, concluding that people were unable to tell the difference when the identity was hidden. Topics such as this one allow us to further our understanding of human behavior, and discover new information that could benefit us in many ways.
